A Very Happy Truesday

A Very Happy Truesday

Hello friends! Many of you probably saw on our instagram that yesterday we held a Truesday celebration.

It was a party in honor of True's adoption, but it was also a celebration of the power of rescue, fostering, adoption, and the amazing resilience of senior dogs. So many of our dog-world friends joined in person, and we had a bunch of people watching live, and so many continued to comment on the video. One person even called it "our version of the royal wedding!"

In the interest of always being real and honest with you, I'll also write a post about the one thing that almost spoiled the day- I asked someone to bring along a foster puppy without putting my dogs' best interests forward, because I thought it would be cute. The combination of people arriving and the new, very large puppy was just too much for Penny, and while in the end everyone and everything was fine, it could have gone badly. But this is a post all about celebrating, so I'll post that later this week.

A little about the day: we knew that we wanted a Golden Girls theme. After all, it's one of our favorite shows, and Gert is our sweet golden girl. She wore a special outfit: a Golden Girls collar from Camp Carlson (if you shop there use our code- PIGSEALGERT), a Golden Girl tag from Bad Tags, and a special mermaid bowtie we got in our Dapper Dog Box.

When we went to the dollar store to buy decorations, I became enamored with all of the Hawaiian luau themed stuff, so we bought that and flamingo print items, and figured we'd make it a tropical/Florida theme, after all Golden Girls takes place in Miami.

The other girls wore their brightly colored Allku Pets collars and their Bad Tags.

Penny's says "Feed me and tell me I'm pretty" and LooseSeal's says "I'm the reason my mom drinks."

We had lots of human snacks and I made a doggie cake. The recipe is linked here (thanks for the recco @CoopertakesBrooklyn). The treats are from Bocce's Bakery and the mermaid is from our Dapper Dog Box.

When it was time for cake we all sang "happy adoption day to Gert" and presented her with the cake. At first she just nibbled all the treats off, but once we cut it open she realized she could eat it and went to town. All the doggies enjoyed eating their pieces of cake, Loo swallowed hers in one gulp.

Thanks to our friend @arielthebrindle for figuring out how to save this video for us forever! <3

She also got lots of presents, including new toys, treats, and Ollie samples.

After the party all the girls were exhausted, but so happy. Thank you to everyone who attended and everyone who watched our stories and sent us some love. We are so grateful to this amazing community who always support us with comments, likes, and love. This was most likely Gert's first birthday party, and while we hope we have many more, there's always the chance it will be her last. We hope we made up for a lifetime of not being celebrated and appreciated the way she deserves, and we will continue to do so every single day we are lucky enough to spend with her.
